Making A Difference With Your Photography

A picture IS worth a thousand words and nobody knows that more than photographers do. For more than a century, photographers have been putting that knowledge to good use. For instance, photographs played a major role in the establishment of Yellowstone National Park and have probably played some role in the formation of every subsequent national park. Photographs have also been used frequently to bring attention to environmental abuses and to promote many worthwhile causes.

Waterfall in Nantahala National ForestOver the years, Bill Lea has used his photography to make people more aware of poaching problems, particularly in regards to whitetail deer and black bears. In addition, Bill frequently presents programs to a wide array of audiences in an attempt to encourage a more peaceful co-existence between humans and bears. Kevin Adams has worked with a number environmental groups and land trusts to help preserve land and further the causes he believes in. All photographers have opportunities to use their images to make a difference in our world, whether it is for conservation, environmental issues, humanitarian causes, or just helping the local elementary school.

We want to showcase Foto Fest participants who are truly “Making A Difference” with their photography. We want to provide photographers an opportunity to highlight their causes and to share some of the images being used in accomplishing their goals. We will do this here on the Foto Fest website and by having photographers give presentations at the annual Foto Fest event. If you know a past Foto Fest participant or someone registered for the current Foto Fest who is doing something special with their photographic work, or if you just want to tell us how you are using your own photography to make a difference in today’s world, please let us hear from you. Send us a brief description of the project and a couple of low-resolution samples of your photographic work to review. We might post your photography and story here on the Foto Fest website or maybe even feature you at a future Foto Fest event.
